Same House.
New Hands.
A small salon on the corner of 41st & Portola. Under David since 1986. On this corner as a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon since 2010. Forty years in — the door is the same, the work is the same, and a new chapter quietly begins.
877 41st Ave · Pleasure Point
№ 01 · Since 1986“I bought the salon in 1986. In 2010, we made a bigger move — a new corner in Pleasure Point and a partnership with Paul Mitchell. The idea then was downsize and upscale: fewer chairs, more education, a floor built on collaboration. Forty years on, the work is the same as it ever was — take care of people.”David AdamsMaster Stylist · Owner 1986–2026
Three quiet turns,
forty years apart.
David becomes the owner.
David Adams buys the salon and puts his name on the door. He'd been at the chair for years already — this is when the salon becomes his.
A different address, a different corner of Santa Cruz. But the same idea that would carry the salon for the next four decades: a small floor, careful hands, and time for the conversation.
New corner. New chapter.
Twenty-four years in, David moves the salon to 877 41st Avenue — the corner of the Pleasure Point commercial district — and joins the Paul Mitchell Focus family. The vision sharpens: downsize and upscale. Fewer chairs, longer attention, a collaborative floor.
The neighborhood is just finding its feet. The corner — near 41st Avenue & Portola Drive — is perfect. A short walk from the cliff, a few doors from coffee.
The salon grows with the corner.
Same hands. New leadership.
After twelve years on David's floor, master stylist Paweena “Gam” Langan buys the salon. Only the name on the lease changes. David stays at the chair. The Paul Mitchell focus stays the spine. The collaborative floor stays.
If you've been a guest for years, nothing about your appointment changes. If you're new — pull up a chair.
Peace, love and happy hair. Same as it ever was.
“I came in to learn from David. Twelve years later, I'm honored to keep the doors open. Same chairs. Same Paul Mitchell focus. Same care. The only thing that changes is the name on the lease — and even that takes a minute to get used to.”Paweena "Gam" LanganOwner · Master Stylist
